In this itinerary, we’ll take you on a journey through Panama, starting with an exciting one-night stay in Panama City, followed by four nights of eco-adventure in the stunning Bocas del Toro archipelago. Get ready for a whirlwind trip that combines the best of both worlds — the vibrant city life and a serene eco-lodge surrounded by nature.

Day 1: Arrive in Panama City

Your adventure begins as you touch down at Tocumen International Airport in Panama City. Known as the “Crossroads of the World,” Panama City offers a fascinating blend of history, culture, and modernity.

Check in at The American Trade in Casco Viejo

Morning: Explore the Old Town (Casco Viejo)

Start your day by exploring Casco Viejo, the historic district of Panama City. Wander through its cobbled streets lined with colorful colonial buildings, each with a story to tell. Don’t miss landmarks like the Panama Canal Museum and the stunning Metropolitan Cathedral.

Lunch: Savor Panamanian Cuisine

Enjoy a delicious Panamanian lunch at a local restaurant. Be sure to try ceviche, a traditional dish made with fresh seafood, and wash it down with a refreshing glass of chicha, a popular local drink.

Insider’s tip: A cute and light place we enjoy going to breakfast is called Dodó Bon Pan Café. They have fantastic salads, plant-based sandwiches, scrambled tofu breakfasts, pastries, and more…and are right in Casco Viejo.

Afternoon: Visit the Miraflores Locks

Head to the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center to witness the marvel of engineering that is the Panama Canal. The interactive museum provides insight into the canal’s history and its significance to global trade.

Evening: Sunset at Ancon Hill

For a breathtaking panoramic view of the city and the Pacific Ocean, hike up Ancon Hill in the late afternoon. Arriving just before sunset lets you witness the city’s skyline bathed in golden hues.

Night: Dinner and Drinks in Casco Viejo

End your day with dinner at one of Casco Viejo’s trendy restaurants. The area comes alive at night, offering a vibrant nightlife scene. Sip on cocktails and enjoy the city’s lively atmosphere before retiring to your hotel.

Insider’s Tip: For dinner, Casa Catedral is an awesome choice. If you want a dinner-plus experience in one, you could also try Salvaje. They have a Carnival Show during dinner…  And for a fine dining experience, Maito would be a great option, serving Panamanian fare with a twist.
